A Love That Cannot Last
A Poem by Emily
The silence of the shore
I am not alone
I feel his warmth beside me
And the sand between my toes
He says to me, "I love you"
I can't help but smile
Friendly eyes, familiar scent
I must have known him for a while
Everything seems possible
No doubts or questions asked
Soon the tide starts coming in
This love it cannot last
The sky begins to blur
Strange sounds seem of place
I reach out to my lover
He no longer has a face
My fingers dig into the softest sand
I cry out, "Let me Be!"
The sky is only blue paint on walls
The sand, now satin sheets
I open up my saddened eyes
This time I am alone
The love I felt has faded too
Unable to live out the great unknown
Life must be lived in wake
Dreams belong to sleep
Maybe I'll see those shores again
And to reality my lover will creep
